Thanks for all of this super helpful content. Is it crucial to practice the letters at this size? Do you practice them at a smaller size (that would fit in a normal, college-ruled notebook) later? I don't have a printer, and I just have regular college-ruled notebook paper. If I write these letters between the blue lines, they'll be much smaller than they would be on your practice sheets. To me it makes sense to practice them at the smaller size, because I want to be able to write cursive on normal notebook paper, but of course I sacrifice the convenience of having guidelines to guide me, and I have to use smaller strokes than what you show in the videos. Am I making things unnecessarily hard for myself?
You can practice at any size. Use a smaller nib/pen width when writing at smaller sizes. The reason I write so big in the course is because it makes it really easy to see your mistakes. Scaling everything smaller is not an issue either as you just use the same cursive grid in your mind to write, just at a smaller size. I say go forward with the college-rule paper and if you are having problems with a certain letter group, you can always put lines down on a blank sheet with a rule/pencil OR you can go to your local library/print shop/fedex and print out the worksheets.
@@PerfectBiscuits thanks!
Thanks for publishing this video. Having been born in the early 2000s, our schooling briefly covered cursive but never required it, so I grew up writing in print with my fingers. Trying to go back to cursive and retrain myself, your video helps a lot!

Sự khác nhau giữa Business Cursive và Consistent Cursive là gì và Palmer Method dạy loại nào vậy?
what model Parker pen are you using to write this with?
Jotter
Try an Opus 88 pen. It has a massive ink capacity and you can adjust the amount of ink getting into the feed.
"Alright lets talk about how to hold a pencil" Me a senior in college 👀
Bro it's really helpful and easy to learn thank you.
What's the advantage of holding the pen like Obama does?
Idk.
What’s the name of the nib
What about Lemon juice and water?
That works.
That’s how I learned it, I think it’s beautiful
The hawk tuah girl learned everything from this video 🤣
I was taught this way. I especially like that the 4 is written with an open top. It was said that the closed top style 4 could be mistaken for a 9 when written and I agree.
Thanks for the great content, David! I am visually impaired, I have to crunch over the paper to see but that kills me after a short time. Any tips that you can share when we have no other option that to look at the paper more closely?
@@HenriqueCSJ try to sit as low as possible and raise your paper up as much as possible so you don’t have to crouch over as much
What pen is this?
Vintage esterbrook 1000
@@PerfectBiscuits it’s a beautiful instrument
Same model but didn't work. This is beyond frustrating.
For being more precise without holding the pen more tightly, one thing I've learned while drawing straight lines and underlining text is that I need to look ahead at where I want the line to go more than try and focus on the spot my pen is at and trying to force the movement to stay "straight" from there. Looking ahead at where I want the line to go might generally help with less exhausting precision.
This is what I want to do for my kids toys. lol imagine doing this to toys and returning them or just putting them back on the shelf.
This really helped me! I have a pack with a feather dip pen with multiple tips and ink. I have tried the thicker ones withoiut really knowing how to use them nor why the ink ran out so fast. Now i tried with one of the smaller tips and it got alot easier!
Your handwriting inspired me to learn cursive! Thank you for the the tips~
Sir, is this American cursive?
Yessir!
@@PerfectBiscuits These are the best videos ever . Thank you very much!!!!!
This is definitely something I'll be trying when I practice! I've been using the Palmer Method after seeing your videos and have been really enjoying it. I find that it makes it easier to write with certain fountain pens like my EF nib Lamy 2000 that has a sweet spot because the rotation and angle of the pen doesn't change. I also found that writing with the arm actually works really well with Gregg shorthand because it also uses oval based shapes, it's been a great tool for fast note taking along with the Palmer Method.
Great points. Arm writing really does allow you to stay in the sweet spot of a nib. And Gregg shorthand was developed around the same time Palmer Method and arm writing was becoming popular. I’m sure it was developed with arm movement in mind.
if you're missing content ideas you should just post your practice sessions. It's interesting to see how a penman practices
@@enpris1781 i have a million ideas, just havent been doing any practice the past year, only writing letters to pen pals and journaling. Will likely post some more practice videos like this though and maybe some other penmanship related stuff too.
This looks sooooo smooth. This must be worth persevering with for the hand comfort alone! Will be interesting to see how I get on when my thumb joint has recovered. I am so sick of ending writing sessions needing pain relief. If I can make it look good too, bonus.
@@juicylouisey oh ya there’s no pain writing like this. Not easy to learn, but once you do you’re good for life.
Another great video!
@@curtisppatalanothanks curtis!
I find ballpoints painful to write with and switched to a fountain pen. I was attracted to this because my arms are stronger than my hand. Could I do this with a fountain pen?
Yes, you can use a fountain pen no problem. I'll just add that a simple Bic ballpoint pen requires practically no pressure to write with.
Hey thanks a lot for helping out! I'm preparing for a competitive exam and i will be having to write continuously and very fast for three hours. Should i be using my finger or try muscle writing like palmer
You have to use whatever works. If you can get through a test exam using your fingers, I’d stick with that as learning to write with your arm takes a lot of time.
hey, what type of ink please can i get the answer?
Higgins Eternal Black
I am studying the ConsistentCursive course. Nice course!
Ha they were meant for pre typewriting days when fountain pens and Ball pens weren't invented. You could write down a bookfull of your favourite song lyrics and your grandchildren may take an interest. Great for doodling
@@vivekanandbs1348 ya I know what they were for, my whole channel is about studying this stuff
Thanks, David.

Hi, David. I'm thinking about buying the Palmer method and learn to write with my arm, but I don't have any prior knowledge with cursive. Should I start with with consistent cursive? Thank you
@@getuliofreitas809 ya i would start with consistent cursive. Might as well, it’s free and you’ll learn a ton that you can apply to learning Palmer.
@@PerfectBiscuits Thanks David
Glad to hear the course is getting more views. I learned from you and I always recommend your course to people online. It is excellent. Congrats on the work book!
Always very happy to see you posting and continuing to work in spreading educational materials for penmanship. I still go thru your videos for inspiration and reference. I especially like the "lowercase 'l' we're going to figure this out" one. I forget the exact title but it's something like that. Ascending loops are a challenge for sure.
Thanks Ryan. You’ve gone deep into the archives! Was just doing some writing last night and took some video. Probably see a new video soon!
Little late for this joke but basically you give the nib a little huak tuah huh
holy fuck i searched for how to write with a fountain pen with your left hand and nothing truly helps. but this, the palm down thing, it works! the most effective thing so far! thank you so much!
I am learning to prepare for my Final Matric examination, since I could always learn but never write fast enough in longer papers. Can I give your video 15mins and practice 15mins(30 mins) a day and get good in 5 months?
Yes!
You were more help than HP! Thank you
I have lots of Sèyés (French ruled) paper. Would that be okay?
@@juicylouisey yep that works!
Nope. Didn't work.
My mother and grandmother were both taught the Palmer method in school and had the most beautiful writing. I wish it had still been around when I was in school!
Hi, is it common in cursive for the W and the U to look similar?
Yes
I like your intentions, but your videos could be 1 minute long and still pass the same amount of information

This is great! Working trough a book also gives a tangible project to make progress on. I learned from e-reader reading that I tend to miss the physical aspect of books. I suspect it may also help me with this type of practice. Thank you for providing this option 😄
I totally agree, dip pens are wonderful.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
I am very grateful for your course and I still refer back to your videos occasionally when I am starting to get careless with some of my letters. Best wishes from England and I hope that the workbook sells well.
Thanks David!
I haven't been in the loop with the channel for a while, but this video came up in my recommendations. I am a sophomore in college, and I self-taught myself cursive in the 3rd grade but haven't used it much. In recent years, I've wanted to get back into it, but the amount of options to go with is overwhelming. I appreciate this video - it makes it a lot easier when you can put a face to the person making the material. Plus, a very reasonable price too! Just bought it
Thank you!
